My Baby Boy and His Broken Leg

Last Tuesday, September 15th, Becks was on the slide at the park with one of our friends and somehow his leg got caught/twisted and broke. We didn't really know what had happened. We just figured he bumped his leg where the shots had been from the day before. We took my crying baby home he fell asleep right away. Later that day he woke and up and we noticed that he wouldn't stand on his leg and it was clear he was in a lot of pain.

So, we drove to the Spanish Fork Clinic (they have a sign that says Urgent Care on the building, but don't let that fool you), they wouldn't see him. Then, the Spanish Fork Family Urgent Care wouldn't take our insurance. We finally got him to the Springville InstaCare where they took x-rays (which sucked) and told us he had fractured his tibia. They call it the typical Toddler Break. Luckily, it will heal just fine and not affect him in the long run. They put him in a temporary cast and told us just to give him Tylenol and Ibuprofen and he should be fine. They told us it was such a small break that he could get it casted sooner than normal.

The next day, Becks started throwing up. I mean, constantly throwing up. We finally get him into the doctors and they said he was throwing up from the pain. The break was a lot deeper than the first doctor told us. They gave him hydrocondon and nausea medicine and said we would have to wait till Monday for the hard cast.

Longest week of my life.

Throw-up (let's not forget I am pregnant), blow-outs, over a dozen loads of laundry, whinny toddler that can't move around like he wants, Jer got food poisoning over the weekend and severe back pain, sleepless nights, and once again, let's not forget about the already exhausted pregnant mom....I mean we were miserable.

Finally, Monday morning we got his cast on. Hallelujah!!

Now, his leg is totally protected, and he is so annoyed. The cast is really hard for him to even crawl in, but he is a trooper. 6 weeks and we get take it off. He is going to be a pirate for Halloween. He is such a cute kid. We really can't wait till he gets past this.

The day it happened

Couple days after

Last day before he gets his hard cast.

Checking for swelling before the cast.

He was so good.

The finished product. Black for his pirate peg leg.

This is how he gets around.

And this is how tired he gets after trying to crawl.

Thanks to everyone, especially Jers family for all the support during this crazy couple weeks. Beckham has loved the treats, toys, and balloons that people have brought by. We really feel the love. Thanks again!!!

Poor kid! I hate when people say it's harder on you than it is on them but it's true. Don't forget to take care of yourself along with everyone else.

I am so sorry! That sounds horrible. I am sorry for everyone, including you because you have to be strong and hold all the pieces together when I'm sure all you want to do is lay down and sleep all day. Hang in there! I hope he feels better soon!

That sounds pretty rough! You poor thing! You and Jer are such great parents. Becks is a lucky little guy to have loving parents like you.
